Jarl Towing Ltd’s fleet has both under and over tonnage vessels. Preference will be given to those candidates who hold the appropriate certification and have coastal knowledge and experience. Captains

Minimum Training Requirements:

- Must be current

- Seafarers Medical

- Meds required for ticket held

- Marine Advanced First Aid

- 60 tonne limited master ticket or 150 tonne master marine ticket

(To captain larger tugs on fleet) - Mechanical knowledge an asset

 

Personal Expectations:

Must have a positive attitude. - Must be able to work independently and as a team player, make intelligent and safe decisions; be able to provide crew positive direction by establishing good communication, and setting a high standard of work ethic.

Must participate in monthly safe company meetings and safety reviews with crew.

 

Minimum Work Experience:

Applicant should have a minimum of five year’s sea-time working on a tug in a Captains position towing logs.

Mate

- Preferred Training Requirements:

- MED A1 or required MEDs for certification held.

- Marine Advanced First Aid

- 60 tonne limited master ticket or 150 tonne master marine ticket (either preferred)

- Bridge Watchman ticket

- Food Safe

- Mechanical knowledge an asset.

- Must participate in monthly safe company meetings and safety reviews with Captain.

- Must be able to work as a team, and be able to problem solve independently.

Minimum Work Experience

- Applicant should have at least three year’s sea-time working on a tug in a Mates position while towing logs.

Deckhands

- Preferred Minimum Training Requirements

- Marine Advanced First Aid

- MED A1 or higher

- Food Safe

- Mechanical Knowledge is a benefit

- Must be able to work as a team, and be able to problem solve independently.

- Must be able to plan meals for crew, and use time effectively.

- Minimum Work Experience

Preference will be given to those with the above training and requirements, and have at least one year’s sea-time working on a tug or a comparable vessel. For this entry level position, we do look at personal character and work ethic as important qualities, and on occasion will train the right candidate without log towing / tugboat experience.
